Post menopause symptoms and treatments
After a woman has gone through the symptoms of menopause for several years, she most likely is really ready for these symptoms to come to an end. After all, the night sweats, hot flashes, irritability, dry skin, irregular periods, and other symptoms are not only an inconvenience for some women but they can be enough to put her life on hold. So when they are finally over, is it time to celebrate? Well, maybe in some ways...
After all, when a woman has had no periods at all for a period of 12 consecutive months, she is normally considered in post menopause. This isn't something that is official, so don't expect a signed and sealed placard from your doctor or local pharmacy! However in most women it's time to realize that a new phase of her life is just beginning. Of course her health should still be at the top of the list for priorities in her life, but preventative measures are hopefully getting the most attention now. Taking care of a womans health, making sure she gets enough calcium for her weakening bones, eating the right foods to keep her energy up and her weight down, among others.
Now that menopause is over, women no longer have their monthly visitor of course, and don't have to worry one bit about getting pregnant. After over 40 years of nearly constant awareness, and even fear of getting pregnant, this can give a woman a true feeling of freedom. Along with this new freedom, she may have other joys to celebrate, maybe the children are grown and left the home or are about to, which also is something to celebrate. Yes, with the right attitude and frame of mind this can be a wonderful time in a womans life, from many standpoints.
Are there medical issues that a woman needs to be wary of at this age? Of course, since this is the time she may need to think about osteoporosis, high cholesterol and heart disease, and even the risk of cancer. If you wish to live a long and healthy (and happy!) life, watching the diet and getting a bit of exercise will certainly be important. Also all of the checkups including pap smear, breast cancer screening, and bone density tests are more important than ever.
Now that you are not so preoccupied with hot flashes, night sweats, and the rather unsettling feeling that you are losing your mind, your focus will be much better. Many women find this time of their lives great for trying new things such as possibly a new career, going back to school for a degree or several classes, learning a new language, all of the things she couldn’t do before in life because there just wasn’t enough time.
